My wife, son and his friend recently visited the Don Garlits Museum of Drag Racing in Ocala, Florida. I had contacted Don in advance and made arrangements to meet him in person. What a thrill! I have been a fan of Don Garlits since about 1965. Growing up with two older brothers who where both in to muscle cars, I was exposed to the thrills of drag racing at an early age.

Don was very gracious during our visit was spent time answering questions and signed a few souvenirs. I asked if I could sit in one of his cars, not knowing what his reaction would be. To my surprise, he lead me to his "hero's" car and allowed me to climb in. We spent some time together and then he went back to his work while my wife, son and I enjoyed the museum.

I would highly recommend this museum to anybody interested in drag racing. It's extremely easy to get to and very close to Orlando. The museum is laid out so nice and there is also a separate museum of engines and a museum of classic cars.

Thanks Don for such an enjoyable visit - highlight of my entire vacation!
